BODUHITI THILA

 

South of Summer Island in the middle of the Hithi Channel lies the Boduhithi Thila. This medium size thila is approx. 800 m long and comes up to 8m below the surface.

 

Here we like to do a drift dive along the western part of the reef. There are three prominent coral “noses” coming out from the main reef at the depth between 15 and 25 meters.

The hard coral cover at the reef top is poor, but the sloping wall is covered with coral life. With a bit of current you'll see thousands of fusilieres falling over you and you get the feeling that the sea hugs you with the fish. White-tip sharks and grey reef sharks, napoleons, oriental sweet lips, and groupers are everywhere. Honeycomb moray eels, turtles and barracudas are frequent to see here as well.

Manta rays are seen here between December and April and cleaning stations on the reef top as well as in the deeper areas are full of life.

BODUHITI THILA

 

Das Boduhithi Thila liegt in der Mitte des Hithi-Kanals südlich von Summer Island.
Mit einer Größe von rund 800 x 500 Meter ist es ein mittelgroßes Thila, das sich bis acht Meter unter die Wasseroberfläche erhebt.
Hier empfiehlt sich besonders ein Strömungstauchgang auf der Westseite des Riffs. Dort ziehen sich drei sandige Einbuchtungen von 25 Meter bis zum Riffdach hoch. Zwischen den Sandflächen haben sich kleine Riffabhänge gebildet, wo auch kleine Höhlen zu finden sind.


Der Fischreichtum ist enorm und sehr abwechslungsreich. Hier tummeln sich meist mehrere Napoleons, Süßlippen, Barsche, und oft begegnet man Weißspitzen-Riffhaien sowie Schildkröten.
Auf dem Thila gibt es auch einige Putzerstationen, die von Dezember bis April gerne von Mantas aufgesucht werden.
